What kind of dentist are you looking for?
Dental Hygiene
Dental hygienists use preventive, educational and therapeutic methods to control oral diseases.Through oral examinations they diagnose the nature and severity of periodontal orgum conditions, and plan and undertake a range of preventative and therapeutic treatments. A main emphasis is the prevention of dental and periodontal diseases through oral health promotion and education.
Teeth Whitening
Many seek this treatment purely to gain extra confidence when they smile. Others may want to undertake this treatment for a special occasion such as a wedding or reunion. Whatever the case may be, teeth whitening is a safe and successful way of lifting your smile. With teeth whitening it is important that your teeth are assessed, that the correct method of whitening is explained to you and that the correct material strength, type of material, and controlling agents are selected. Other normal health related dental work may be required prior to teeth whitening. It must also be considered that we may not be able to achieve the results you are looking for with teeth whitening only.
Teeth Fillings
Dental fillings are used to restore worn or damaged teeth and treat tooth decay. Dental amalgam is a strong, inexpensive material that is commonly used for filling teeth, especially the molars (back teeth). In recent years, alternative tooth-coloured filling materials have also become more common and affordable. Dental fillings are used to restore teeth and treat tooth decay, especially in the molar (back) teeth. These teeth do most of the heavy chewing of the food we eat, so wear and tear is inevitable. The dentist uses a drill and other tools to remove the decay. The hole is cleaned and dried, and then sealed with a filling material. Types of filling material include "Dental amalgam" and "Tooth-coloured fillings". Other forms of tooth restoration, such as gold or ceramic crowns, are an expensive alternative to amalgam and tooth-coloured filling materials.
Wisdom Teeth
One of the most common surgical procedures in Australia is the removal of wisdom teeth. It is not known why we have wisdom teeth or why they tend to develop in such an unfavourable manner. Wisdom teeth are the last molars (third molars) in each quadrant of our dentitions. They usually come through the gum between the ages of 18 and 25 yrs old. Often there is not enough space for them to come through fully and only part of the tooth protrudes through the gum (partial eruption). The removal of all four wisdom teeth usually involves a small surgical procedure. It can be performed safely in the dental chair under local anaesthetic. For more complex cases or where patients are anxious, intravenous sedation (sleep dentistry) can be arranged.
Teeth Braces
Orthodontic braces are small attachments that are bonded individually to your teeth. They can be made from metal or tooth coloured material. Your teeth are gradually moved and straightened by working through a progressive series of wires. Treatment entails a number of stages until your bite is corrected and teeth are aligned. Treatment time will vary depending on your personal situation. While metal braces are extremely effective, they can be uncomfortable, not to mention embarrassing if you're no longer in high school. The great news is, if you have crooked teeth, you now have another option - a virtually invisible teeth-straightening technique called Invisalign. This method involves a set of clear, plastic moulds custom-made for your teeth. Known as aligners, these moulds are worn around-the-clock, although you can pop them out if you really want to. Every two weeks the aligners are updated so your teeth gradually shift into the perfect smile you desire.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Cosmetic Dentistry is all about appearance, making teeth whiter, straighter or more even, ensuring gums are a healthy rich colour and smiles sparkle. The treatment of appearance related disorders brings joy and a sense of accomplishment to both the patient and the practitioner. Cosmetic dentistry includes a range of dental procedures that can restore or replace discoloured, chipped, gapped, crooked or missing teeth. Severe tooth problems may need orthodontic treatment. This is a specialised branch of dentistry that corrects jaw and teeth misalignments with devices such as braces. Cosmetic dentistry includes procedures such as tooth-coloured fillings, bleaching, micro-abrasion, bonding, veneers, crowns, dental implants and orthodontic treatment.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are now recognised as routine treatment for a full range of problems from replacing a single tooth, to full oral rehabilitation. An implant is, essentially, a sophisticated titanium screw which is placed into the jaw bone to replace the root of a lost natural tooth. The implant fuses with the jaw bone to form a secure foundation for tooth replacement. The end result is replacement teeth that look, feel and function just like natural teeth. The embarrassment, irritation and self consciousness often experienced by people who have missing teeth, those who wear dentures or who have suffered through older methods of tooth replacement, are overcome with the confidence of permanently anchored dental implants.
Teeth Veneers
Veneers are thin, custom-made shells crafted of tooth-coloured materials designed to cover the front side of teeth. They are the most aesthetic alternative for many dental conditions when looking at cosmetic dentistry on the front teeth. Porcelain Veneers can be used to improve the appearance of stained, chipped or crooked front teeth or to fill in spaces between teeth. They are a far more conservative alternative to full crowns because only a small amount of enamel has to be removed. We will tell you whether you are suitable for the procedure.
Orthodontics
Orthodontics is a field of dentistry that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of dental and facial irregularities in children and adults. Children and adults alike can benefit from orthodontic treatment as healthy teeth can be moved at almost any age. It is however recommended that all children have an orthodontic screening no later than age seven, as some orthodontic problems may be easier to correct if treated early. Orthodontic treatment can have a positive influence on dental problems such as crowding of teeth; gaps between teeth; protruding upper teeth; under bite or lower protrusion; open or cross bite; deep over bite. Custom made appliances such as braces and other devices can be prescribed and designed by the orthodontist according to the problem being treated.
